Safety at sea - 2nd edition
"Water sports is one of the safest sports and leisure activities. However, when we reach our limits, there is, as everywhere else, the risk of accidents and injuries. Good preparation makes us better able to cope with extreme situations, which increases our chances of survival."
This book "Safety at Sea" contains the basic knowledge that every sailor and motorboat driver should have in case of an emergency at sea. It explains the importance of good safety equipment for water sports with clearly understandable drawings. And explains how and when to use it.
It deals with the basic topics of safety at sea and emergencies. Among other things, it covers manoeuvres overboard, handling life rafts, survival in cold water, fire fighting, damage and solutions, rescue and recovery, and first aid. This makes this guide invaluable to anyone who is at sea with their yacht. It supports the contents of the World Sailing certified safety training and is also a standard work and textbook of the RYA (original title: Sea Survival Handbook).
With the knowledge and the right equipment, you can face every eventuality on board with the determination and safety that is so crucial for survival at sea.
Translated from English by the Austrian offshore professional and safety expert Christian Kargl.
Christian Kargl is himself a deep-sea sailor and went overboard in the Mini Transat 2005. After being rescued by a Spanish regatta sailor off Brazil, he started with safety training in Austria and now holds his courses in Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Germany. The topic of safety at sea is often insufficiently explained in the training courses for sea sailing. The book can explain many questions very clearly and give tips for dealing with emergency situations.
