The ICOM MA-510TR is a Class B AIS transponder with TFT colour display and large viewing angle. The ICOM MA-510TR receives Class A and B AIS signals and transmits its own signals.
The advantages of an Automatic Identification System (AIS)
The ICOM MA-510TR automatically receives information from other AIS-equipped vessels or from coastal stations and transmits its own movement and other information. AIS-equipped vessels and buoys are displayed even if they are difficult to detect with a ship's radar. The ICOM MA-510TR can receive both Class A and Class B AIS signals, increasing your safety at sea.
The high-resolution TFT colour display of the ICOM MA-510TR with a diagonal of 4.3″ and a large viewing angle clearly shows the positions of your own and other ships. Potentially dangerous ships are shown in red and ships registered as friends in yellow. In day mode, the display is readable even in direct sunlight. The night mode of the ICOM MA-510TR ensures good readability in the dark.
The target list shows all detected AIS equipped vessels and targets. The Danger List shows vessels that are within six nautical miles of the point of closest approach (CPA) and within 60 minutes of the own vessel's closest approach (TCPA). Detected AIS targets that have been set as friends in the ICOM MA-510TR appear in the friends list. If detailed information about the target is to be displayed, select the target with the cursor keys and press the [ENT] key.
The navigation function of the ICOM MA-510TR guides you to a specific waypoint or AIS destination. A maximum of 100 preferred destinations can be stored as waypoints. When a waypoint or AIS target is selected on the display, the navigation function starts.
An individual DSC call can be sent by selecting an AIS target and voice channel on the ICOM MA-510TR*.
* This requires a compatible Icom marine VHF radio (see listing below). The ICOM MA-510TR and the radio can be connected using a suitable third party cable. Refer to the owner's manual of the radio for wiring instructions.
AIS data can be output via the USB interface on the back of the transponder*.
* A USB connection cable and a third-party application are required.
The ICOM MA-510TR is equipped with a GPS receiver with SBAS function for receiving position data. The included GPS antenna has a 10 m connection cable.
With plug-and-play NMEA 2000™ functionality, the ICOM MA-510TR can be connected to a NMEA 2000™ network (external chartplotter, marine radar and marine VHF radio) and connected to a marine radio, chartplotter, marine radar or GPS receiver using the NMEA-0183/-HS interface.
As soon as vessels enter the CPA or TCPA range, the vessel symbol in the chart display starts flashing and a warning tone is audible. If external audio accessories are connected and installed on deck or on the bridge, you will be informed even if you are not near the transponder yourself.
In silent mode, the transmission of your own vessel's position data by the AIS transmitter is temporarily switched off. This function is useful when you do not want to reveal your position to other vessels. To ensure safety, the AIS messages of other vessels can still be received.
