Regatta Sport: World Cup of the Olympic classes in Perth

Berlin, 12 December 2011: The first half of the "ISAF Sailing World Championships" (3 to 18 December 2011) in Perth, Australia is over, and four sailors of the national sailing team, the Audi Sailing Team Germany (ASTG), have met the requirements of the German Sailing Association for Olympic participation, coordinated with the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB). The preliminary results:

Ferdinand Gerz and Patrick Follmann (DTYC) in the 470s, surfer Moana Delle (SKBUe) in the RS: X class and Franziska Goltz (SSV 1894) in the Laser Radial are celebrating! They are to be nominated for the 2012 Olympics in London. "Attending the Olympics is a dream for me. It hasn't even sunk in, but I'm very happy," said Moana Delle (SKBUe) beaming with joy after her last race at the World Cup in Australia.

The 22-year old had already fulfilled the DOSB requirements for the German national team before the final elimination race, winning 14th place among 67 starters.
470s duo Ferdinand Gerz / Patrick Follmann (DTYC) also ranked among the top 20 teams. By securing 15th place among 80 competing teams, the two Bavarians lived up to their own expectations: "Our personal goal was to come among the top 15 and we've done that. We are very satisfied." Gerz and Follmann won the national Olympic qualification. Franziska Goltz (SSV 1894), who came 39th in Laser Radial Space among 102 participants, fell short of her own expectations and didn't achieve her potential. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old has qualified for the national Olympic team.

Since yesterday, four star boat teams have been competing for an Olympic ticket in their classes and all the teams still have a chance. Robert Stanjek / Frithjof Kleen (NRV) are in second place after two races. Also, there is an upcoming head-to-head race between Simon Grotelüschen (LYC) and Philipp Buhl (SCAI) in the Laser Standard. Surfer Toni Wilhelm (WYC) has already met the DOSB requirements and has secured a ticket for Germany at the World Cup. There will be an exciting duel between Tina Lutz (CYC) / Susann Beucke (HYC) and Kathrin Kadelbach (VSaW) / Friederike Belcher (NRV), who have just two points between them in national Olympic qualifiers. The Laser Standard, the 470 women's, the 49ers and the RS: X men's start today (December 12, 2011) in the World Cup. The international sailing elite from over 70 nations will be fighting in six classes for the World Champion title and the German sailors for the Olympic qualification in Australia until next Sunday, 18 December 2011.
